Taliban agree to vacate Buner

PESHAWAR: The Taliban in Buner agreed on Friday to vacate the district, Commissioner Malakand Division told DawnNews.

Mullah Fazlullah ordered his fighters to withdraw from Buner district, a spokesman for the militants said.

‘Our leader has ordered that Taliban should immediately be called back from Buner,’ spokesman Muslim Khan told Reuters.

More than 100 paramilitary troops were manning the police stations around the district on Friday as Taliban militants patrolled its streets, officials said earlier.

Two platoons comprising 113 men were sent to the rugged region, just 100 kilometres from Islamabad, which has been invaded by Taliban from the neighbouring Swat valley.

‘The provincial government has sent two Frontier Constabulary (FC) platoons to Buner, which have been posted in different police stations to check any attack by militants,’ local police official Rasheed Khan told AFP.
